Kaimana Cave is a historical relic that humans cannot underestimate.
Everything that exists is a process from the past, which then becomes a lesson. There are several unique things about caves in Kaimana.
Get to know the Unique Discoveries in Kaimana Cave
Some scientists explain that the cave must be large enough so that some parts of it do not receive sunlight. Prehistoric humans survived by depending on the natural resources around them.
The choice of shelter and materials for living equipment is an indication of human adaptation strategies. Then what are the things that finding in Kaimana Cave?
1. Discovery of Pottery Fragments
There was a discovery of pottery fragments in a box. In experts’ analysis, the open edge is a form of pottery types of plain stoneware and decorated stoneware.
Observations on the surface of the pottery fragments show that the pottery was made by hand.
The presence of finger pressure indentations supports the above facts. The thickness of the pottery is uneven. The black surface color and black cross-section indicate the open combustion process.
The geometric decorative motifs are make using the scratch technique. There are traces of use in the form of soot, indicating that the pottery was use for cooking.
2. Discovery of Bone Artifacts
In the caves, bone apparatus was once found, which had a tapered shape. There are also traces of art in the form of scratches at the base.
It is estimate that the sharpness of this bone is related to the activity of gouging out the contents of the shells.
Arrowhead-shape bone tools are find, and the process of forming these tools is know by pruning distally and proximally. After that, it smoothes the surface of the former trimming.
3. Discovery of Metal Artifacts
The subsequent discovery of the Kaimana cave is a fragment of a metal artifact made of iron, a type of machete weapon with a length of 3 cm, a width of 4 cm and 1.5 cm of thickness.
The machete is thought to have make using forging techniques.
Fragments of ceramic edges were also found. Base on observations of the orientation, thickness and rim diameter, it is know that the complete shape is a bowl.
The material is porcelain with white color, blue decoration, and geometric decorative motifs.
4. Discovery of Shell Jewelry
The subsequent discovery was a bracelet fragment jewelery measuring 5.8 cm long, 1.1 cm wide and 0.5 cm thick.
Meanwhile, there was also the discovery of circular jewelery with a diameter of 1.3 cm and a thickness of 0.2 cm.
This jewelery is circular with trimming techniques. Then, a tiny hole was drill in the middle using a tool with a sharp end.
5. Findings of Mollusk Shells
The discovery of mollusc shells in the Kaimana Cave made many more expansive discoveries. It is thought to be relate to food processing techniques.
Mollusc shells are slightly brownish and black with porous shell conditions. This finding indicates that the processing process is burn before consumption.
While the shell condition is intact, with the shell color unchange, this situation indicates that molluscs should not be consume raw.
6. The Discovery of Charcoal
The presence of charcoal indicates combustion activity: other ecofact findings, namely walnuts and some plants.
They are finding walnuts in a condition that is not intact (split). Walnuts split into two to take the contents in it.
The results of observations of the environment around the site are known to contain walnut trees.
Kaimana Cave has many mysteries that may still need to solve. However, some of the findings above make the eyes open wider.
So solid and extraordinary prehistoric cave-dwelling humans, everything feels fantastic.
