Security forces play a critical role, specifically in ensuring the safety of religious gatherings in Indonesia. This aims to create a favorable environment free of terrorist threats, frequently disrupting Indonesia’s peace among its religious communities. Mathius D. Fakhiri is one great example.

Not to mention the numerous reports in the past about people being attacked while worshiping in mosques or churches. Fortunately, Inspector General Mathius D. Fakhiri and his police team are always ready to protect and secure Papua’s diverse religious events.

Mathius D. Fakhiri’s Leadership to Secure Religious Activities

Mathius D. Fakhiri

Before anything, let’s take a peek at this mighty police figure. Inspector General of Police Mathius D. Fakhiri, S.I.K. Born January 6, 1968, is a high-ranking police officer who has served as the Head of the Papua Regional Police since February 18, 2021.

He directed several cases and security effectively. One of them is this year’s Eid al-Fitr celebration in Papua. He stressed that his police team in Papua was ready to provide security guarantees for Eid al-Fitr 1443 Hijri, or Eid al-Fitr prayers, last April this year.

And thanks to his leadership, the security was managed impeccably, and there were no reports of violence or prejudice, which formerly graced the face of religious devotion in Papua.

Moreover, during this year Eid al-Fitr, Police Chief Fakhiri recognized that while the government has approved the Eid prayers in public, health measures such as wearing masks, washing hands, and paying attention to the health of the surrounding environment remain in place.

Inspector General Fakhiri also noted that the Eid prayer service is one of a series of religious holiday festivities for Muslims and that the police would help secure it so that it is seamless, safe, and congenial.

He hopes that the acts of tolerance across religious communities demonstrated by the people of the Land of Papua will serve as an example for other regions in Indonesia.

Peparnas XVI Security

In addition to ensuring the ceremony of worship in Papua, Inspector General Fakhiri was also in charge of securing the Perparnas XI, held in 2021.

He said that security in the region was excellent during the 2021 National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) XVI. Plus, Mathius Fakhiri pointed out that the safe and controlled kamtibmas scenario had occurred since the PON (National Sports Week) event some time ago.

A little bit about Peparnas XVI Papua, the event was attended by 1,935 participants from 33 provinces who participated in 12 sports in 12 venues located in Jayapura City and Jayapura Regency.

At least 12 sports were competing at Peparnas 2021, such as weight lifting, athletics, boccia, badminton, chess, judo, shooting, archery, swimming, cerebral palsy (CP) soccer, wheelchair field tennis, and table tennis.

Furthermore, the athletes competed in 640 competitions for 2,812 medals, including 861 gold, 861 silver, and 1,090 bronze.

The Longing of Mathius D. Fakhiri

Mathius D. Fakhiri was raised in a police family with full discipline instilled by his father. Indeed, his father, Lieutenant Colonel Natalis Fakhir, raised him in a military family.

Thus, when he was a kid, he also had aspirations of becoming a pilot. It’s just that fate intervened. Mathius D. Fakhiri is now the Inspector General of Police.

Yet, who knows, even though Inspector General Fakhiri’s professional route has been relatively smooth. He still has an unmet desire to become a community service police officer and cater to the needs of the people of Papua.

Instead, he committed himself to become a security force in Papua, especially in the heartland. Mathius D. Fakhiri also highlighted that despite various inadequacies while working in Papua’s heartland, the duty to protect the population must remain.
