It has potential in natural resources, but it also turns out that Papua can boost its economy with its tourism potential. Tourism development in Papua is currently being intensified by the Indonesian Government and the local Papuan Government. Starting from the beauty of nature to the diversity of plants and animals. Tourism based on education and wildlife conservation can be the main point in Papua. Therefore, Papua will become a tourism integrated livestock area.

How Does The Government Act For This Potential?

The Indonesian Government has led to focus on developing the tourism potential in Papua. For example, in West Papua.

The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy/Agency for Tourism and Creative Economy appreciates the commitment of the West Papua Provincial Government. The purpose is to develop tourism and the creative economy (parekraf or pariwisata Ekonomi kreatif) in West Papua. So, the Government is committed to supporting the development of tourism potential in West Papua. It has a significant impact on the community, especially in economic revival with the creation of job opportunities.

The tourism potential of this province is almost complete in Indonesia. The nature in Papua is still original, the culture is distinctive and unique. Also, the particular maritime interest is no less attractive than in other regions in Indonesia and even abroad.

All natural resources that have not been touched and even arranged to become a leading tourist attractions and attraction for tourist visits. Especially the eternal snow in the central mountains and Lorentz National Park, which covers an area of 2,505,600 ha. This area is the largest conservation area in Southeast Asia. The location is at an altitude of 0-4,884 m above sea level and is spread over four districts. It namely: Jayawijaya, Mimika, Puncak Jaya and Asmat districts.

Lorentz National Park is not a common conservation area like other areas. Still, on December 12, 1999, the United Nations, through the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), officially designated it as a world heritage site with approximately 43 types of ecosystems. The Tropical Region area has glaciers. (Cartenz Peak) and the stunning Habema lake, dotted with alpine meadows and marshes.

Therefore, tourism development in Papua is indeed quite promising in the long term. As a natural resource-based tourism destination, Tanah Papua has a wealth of biodiversity recognised by the world. Above the area, dubbed the Earth of Paradise, lay 125 species of mammals (55 percent endemic), 223 reptile species (35 percent endemic), 602 bird species (52 percent endemic), and 15,000-20,000 plant species.

Other Potential An Its Development

Tourist destinations spread across Tanah Papua are tourist destinations that are friendly to the public. Although there are obstacles to inadequate infrastructure accessibility, the attractions and amenities presented by each tourist destination in Papua can still attract the attention of tourists, both domestic and foreign. When visiting the Land of Papua, every tourist has a responsibility to preserve the environment. For example, looking out at the sustainability of local tourist areas, such as obeying customary regulations.

There is another Wasur National Park in Merauke with various species of mammals. Cenderawasih Bay National Park has a variety of beautiful marine and coral biota and cultural potential. It is usually displayed at the Baliem and Asmat Valley Festivals. And other tourism activities in the form of trekking, hiking, hunting, and adventure.

Next, to support the tourism potential of Papua’s culture, the local Government actively holds festivals to promote Papua’s culture to the world. For Examples, Sentani Lake Festival, Munara Wampasi Festival, Teluk Humbold Jayapura City Festival.

So, as the Government keeps developing tourism’s potential in Papua, the citizens in Indonesia also actively promote the tourism destination in Papua. Therefore, there will be a big chance that Papua will become a tourism integrated livestock area.
