According to the economic prospect, microalgae contain 50% crude protein, 25 times greater than that produced by soybeans for biodiesel and bioethanol.

However, biomass production for microalgae is still low in weight per year. For this reason, the Papuan government has developed empowerment for marine conservation in order to produce many important microalgae. As a result, this will significantly impact economic development, medicine, cosmetics, and alternative energy.

In 2017, WHO has determined food products from microalgae are safe to use as food for children.
